Reishi Oxymel

A Traditional Honey and Vinegar Blend

Vinegar and honey, matured slowly, the old way. Six traditions that never shared a shelf, gathered into one bottle. Our Reishi is grown on the farm at Coolum Beach and folded into the same maceration, the rest gathered from growers we trust.

The Maceration

Two Vessels, One Maturation

Reishi begins its maceration alone, extracted by itself before anything else joins the vessel. Once ready, the remaining botanicals are added, and the whole continues its slow work together in raw apple cider vinegar and raw honey, for a minimum of sixteen weeks from start to finish.

Origins

From Many Lands, One Bottle

The Greeks called this preparation oxymel, vinegar and honey combined and left to become something else entirely. The practice passed through Roman and medieval European hands, kept alive in monastery stillrooms and household kitchens long after the earliest hands that made it were gone.

No single household ever had all of this at once. Mullein and Elderberry belonged to the English hedgerow. Hyssop and Rosemary, to the Mediterranean kitchen garden. Tulsi and Turmeric, to a tradition further east. Reishi, further still, carried its own reputation for calm and stillness through centuries of East Asian practice.
None of these traditions ever shared a single shelf.

What's modern here isn't the method, it's the reach.

The ability to bring six traditions that never met into one vessel, and let them mature as one.

Who It's For

What the Old Kitchens Reached For

Elderberry has been gathered and boiled into syrups and cordials every autumn for centuries, a hedgerow fruit put up in bottles each year specifically so it would last through winter, long after the berries themselves were gone.

Rosehip carried its own reputation, gathered for its vitamin C content long before the vitamin had a name. During the Second World War, when citrus imports to Britain grew scarce, the Ministry of Health called on the country to gather rosehips by the ton, turned into syrup and given to children as a daily source of vitamin C.
Reishi Oxymel carries both, kept the old way, in raw apple cider vinegar and raw honey.
