This is sterile grain only, with no mycelium included.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eWhy Millet\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eMillet kernels are smaller than rye, so a bag holds far more individual grains. More grains means more inoculation points, which helps the mycelium spread through the bag quickly and evenly. It is a favourite for making spawn for a wide range of gourmet and medicinal species.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBefore You Order\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cbr\u003eYou will need your own culture to inoculate the bag, such as a colonised agar plate, liquid culture or spore syringe. Test it on a plain MEA plate first, without antibiotics, so any bacteria can show up before you commit a bag. Read the plate for the full 7 to 10 days before deciding it is clean.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eUsing Your Bag\u003cbr\u003eCheck your bag when it arrives. If the seal, filter patch or plastic looks damaged, or you notice coloured patches, wet spots or an off smell, get in touch before using it. Store it upright in a cool, dry spot out of direct sun, and don't stack more than 2 bags high or squash them, as pressure can damage the filter patch or the bag itself. For best results use it within 2 weeks of arrival.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach bag comes sealed with a filter patch and has no injection port. Cut it open to inoculate, working inside a still air box or in front of a flow hood, then reseal the bag with a bag clip or heat sealer. Sterility lasts as long as the bag stays sealed, so once it is opened, clean technique is what protects your spawn. After inoculation, colonise somewhere with good airflow and a stable temperature, out of direct sunlight and away from direct heat or cold (check your species ideal incubation temperature).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOnce colonised, use your spawn to inoculate bulk substrate such as our \u003ca href=\"\/products\/master-mix-sterilised-substrate-bag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eMaster Mix\u003c\/a\u003e or \u003ca href=\"\/products\/shiitake-mix-sterilised-substrate-bag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"\u003eShiitake Mix\u003c\/a\u003e.
